The term Hinduism refers to a complex reality that is often reduced, simplified, and frequently misinterpreted.
Researchers approaching Indo-Vedic civilization without a number of essential points of reference are unable to discern a unifying pattern within the many forms of the phenomenon before them. As a result, they remain disoriented and end up describing it as polytheism or pantheism, when they do not reduce it altogether to legend or superstition.
